Nuclear Medicine Therapy

Nuclear medicine has the unique capacity for both diagnosis and treatment. The basic principle of "invivo" targeting radionuclides to pathology may equally be used for both diagnosis and treatment. From the long established use for the treatment of thyroid cancer and thytotoxicosis to the use of bone seeking agents for the pallation of bone pain, nuclear medicine procedures offer the potential for effective treatment of an increasing number of diseases. The production of new therapeutic radionuclides, chemical conjugation techniques and selective molecular carrier has opened up an exiting new field. The future role of nuclear medicine therapy is destined to become of increasing clinical importance.
