This book represents a short and practical text using a coaching approach to develop the reader’s interview skills. This is due to a clear need that encourages doctors to prepare well for interviews. The author, working as a coach, has supported colleagues in the run up to interviews and, above all, those looking for the same thing: a practical assistance in learning how to structure a response to a question that gives a flavor of their personality as well as their experience and knowledge. The existing training courses - although expensive and providing background material - provide limited opportunity for candidates to craft their own answers in a compelling narrative that will help them to stand out

Healthcare organisations are increasingly looking at assessment of ‘values’ and ‘behaviours’ as part of the recruitment process. This represents a shift from a more clinical competency based approach and requires additional preparation in the period before an interview. Clinicians need guidance around describing their personal clinical experience in this context and this booklet can represent a candidate’s personal interview coach.

The Author has developed a Clinical Leadership and Quality Improvement training programme for doctors and dentists in training in UK and the book is devoted to all doctors, healthcare professionals and nurses in training positions and/or moving to a new role.
